Vasco da Gama director Paulo Bracks has confirmed approaches for Newcastle United target Andrey Santos.

Reports in Brazil earlier this week claimed the Magpies had made contact over the 18-year-old, with a £30million offer reportedly lined up.

Santos - who is also being tracked by Barcelona, AC Milan and Benfica - has been the subject of enquiries but an official bid is yet to be tabled.

Bracks told Globo Esporte: “Vasco does not have, under this new management, a need to sell athletes. There will be financial stability at the club.

“Obviously, business will happen. But within an acceptance. From normal negotiations.

“Vasco’s contracts will be stronger and stronger.

“There is no proposal on the table. Many people approached him (Santos). A lot of people who shouldn’t, by the way.

“Andrey is a Vasco player, with a secure contract. If there is a possibility to negotiate, we will. But not this year.”

After progressing from the academy setup in January, Santos has scored five goals in 26 appearances for his side and his performances have led to comparisons with Barcelona and Spain midfielder Sergio Busquets.

Santos is not the first Brazilian youngster said to be on United’s radar after the Magpies were linked with Santos forward Angelo Gabriel and Flamengo’s Victor Hugo during the summer months.
