St James' Park upgrade confirmed in 10-word update after £30m Newcastle United deal
This week, images emerged of the Magpies removing the ‘Newcastle United’ lettering on the East Stand. The font was installed in 2011 and is the same typeface as Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct. Visibly, it is the only lasting reminder of Ashley’s dismal 14-year ownership.
But that has now changed, much to the delight of supporters. Newcastle have shared an update on social media after restoring the typeface to what it once way.

“Small wins make a big difference,” replied Newcastle United Supporters Club on X, while another account said: “These are the things that count.”
Newcastle negotiated an early exit from their multi-year kit deal with Castore - the last commercial deal approved by Ashley as owner. Adidas officially returned at the beginning of last month, which is worth a reported £30million per-season, compared to the £6.5m Castore were paying.
In the last month, the Castore logos have been removed from the Gallowgate Stand and replaced by Adidas logos.

The concourse areas have also been rejuvenated while a number of hospitality areas have been installed in the stadium. But the big hope is that Newcastle will be able to extend its 52,000-seater capacity.
World leading architects have been conducting a feasibility since last year with the results set to be shared soon.
