“An injury is another player’s opportunity - and Jeff has waited patiently for his, trained well,” said Bruce.

“It is a great strike from Jeff. We are delighted for him but it is a real pity we couldn’t take that big chance that came our way.”

On Willock, head coach Bruce revealed: “He has a hip injury. It may take a bit of time. Let’s hope.

“It’s another one we have picked up but I don’t want to make than an excuse.

“We have got to see where we are with it.

“The international break certainly helps us out in that respect.”
