Steve Bruce likely to be axed by Newcastle United with former Premier League boss a candidate

Newcastle United’s new owners look set to axe unpopular head coach Steve Bruce.

And a former Premier League boss is a candidate to replace him.

Bruce has been subject to chants from the fanbase all season, calling for him to leave or be sacked. And a recent Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST) poll confirmed that more than 90% of their members polled believe his time is up.

And NewcastleWorld understands Bruce’s position will be one of the first things addressed by the PCP Consortium. No rash decision is set to be taken, although it is recognised Bruce’s position has become very precarious in recent times.

United are yet to win any of their first eight games of the campaign.

And while fans dream of appointments like Antonio Conte, it is understood a more quick fix, short term appointment may be sought as the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, Reuben Brothers and PCP Capital Partners buyers seek a more ‘measured’ early approach to life as owners of the Magpies.

One name thought to be under consideration is former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe.

Howe has been out of work since leaving the Cherries at the back end of the 2020/21 season.

He has previously worked with both Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser at the Vitality Stadium.
