Around 2,000 Geordies congregated in the South Stand and watched their team beat J-League side Urawa Red Diamonds 4-1.
And throughout the evening, the Japanese Magpies were loud and proud as they got witness their beloved club in flesh, most of which for the first time.
“Amazing,” said Newcastle boss Eddie Howe. “I couldn't believe the number of Geordies we had here today, incredible again but not a total surprise because we've had evidence of it all the time.
“You have to appreciate the distance, money and commitment to be here. Obviously the local people, the people from Japan who are Newcastle supporters, it was great to play in front of them and thank them at the end.”
Typically, flags and banners were on show, whether that be poking fun at bitter rivals Sunderland or doing their best to replicate Wor Flags’ iconic pre-match display.
