Sven Botman fires X-rated response to Newcastle United supporter over 'season-ending' injury claim

Sven Botman has seemingly hit back at claims he will miss the rest of Newcastle United’s season.

Newcastle United defender Sven Botman has fired back at a Magpies’ fan and content creator over a ‘season-ending’ and ‘injury prone’ claim.

Botman is set to go under the knife to fix an issue in the opposite knee to the one which saw him miss much of last and this season with an ACL injury. The injury is not thought to be a serious one, but does require surgery.

And, as usual, the content creators have been jumping on the news, first reported by NewcastleWorld, that Botman is the latest player to add to Eddie Howe’s growing injury list, and put their own little twist on it.

But that twist, on this occasion, has not gone down well with the player himself.

What was said about Botman?

NUFC content creator Geordie Josh took to Instagram to promote a story written by Daily Mail writer Craig Hope. In the post he said: “Not only is Botman GUARANTEED to miss the Carabao Cup Final, but his season could be over 😶. On a positive note, the current knee injury is thought to be the opposite to which he done his ACL last season ↔️Is Botman becoming injury prone? 💬🗞️ - Craig Hope/Mail Sport.”

Botman took to his own Instagram account to fire back a response to the post.

It said: “Don’t sell bullsh-t.”

Now what is not clear is what Botman was unhappy about.

Could it be that the player will not miss the full season as predicted? Or could it be a case of the Dutchman taking offence at the suggestion he may be “becoming injury prone”?

Without him speaking about it further in public, it’s hard to know.

How long will Sven Botman be out?

This, at the moment, is an unknown, although NewcastleWorld understands the player is facing a race against time to be fit at any point before the end of the current season.

The player has been absent for large parts of the last two seasons, missing two prolonged periods due to an ACL injury last season and again this, with a problem in the other knee.

This comes despite the fact head coach Eddie Howe suggested the player was close to making the United squad for the FA Cup fifth round loss to Brighton and Hove Albion.

What does Sven Botman’s absence mean for Newcastle United?

Well, in short, it’s not good news.

Newcastle are very short of cover at centre-half, and look like they’re one injury or suspension away from a mini-crisis in that department, with former club captain Jamaal Lascelles still a long way short of a return.

Only Dan Burn and Fabian Schar are available at present, although right-back Emil Krafth could cover inside, if needed.

In January, Newcastle struck a deal to allow their other central defender Lloyd Kelly to join Juventus, in a negotiation that will see them net close to £20million when that transfer is made permanent in the summer. It was an initial loan deal with an obligation to sign.
