Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has issued a positive update to Magpies fans regarding the injury status of top defender Sven Botman [via The Shields Gazette]. The 23-year-old has missed the Mags’ last two games in the Premier League, but he could be set for a return sooner rather than later.

Since joining the club in 2022, Botman has formed a formidable centre-back partnership with Fabian Schar - however, the pair have been split up during Botman’s injury absence. Instead, captain Jamaal Lascelles has been filling in the gaps, as well as auxiliary left-back Dan Burn.

Earlier in the season, Botman scored his first-ever goal in the Premier League during Newcastle’s 8-0 victory over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. So far, the Dutchman has made 50 appearances for the Toon in England’s top division. Previously, he has played for teams such as LOSC Lille, Heerenveen and Ajax.

Botman has had some rough luck with injuries so far this season. Not only did he miss Newcastle’s game against Brighton and Hove Albion with an ankle injury, he has also missed out on the Toon’s two previous Premier League encounters with a knee issue.

What has been said regarding Sven Botman’s injury progress?

Botman is thought to be making ‘excellent’ progress on his recovery according to head coach Eddie Howe. In a post on his official Instagram page, Botman wrote ‘coming back stronger than ever’.

Will Sven Botman be fit to play against Crystal Palace at the weekend?

As things stand, despite his positive progress, it is unclear as to whether Botman will be fit to play against Crystal Palace at the weekend or not.

While he is thought to be doing well and will return to first-team action soon, there has been no official confirmation regarding his availability - on that end, we will have to wait and see.
