Sven Botman, Joelinton & Jamaal Lascelles: Newcastle United injury list & expected return dates

Newcastle United’s injury list eased on Saturday, despite losing 4-0 away to Premier League champions Manchester City.

The Magpies welcomed Anthony Gordon back into the starting XI after he missed the 3-2 FA Cup fourth round victory against Birmingham City with a quad issue, while Dan Burn was also passed fit. The Blyth-born defender was a doubt for the game after withdrawing at Birmingham with a groin complaint.

But United still remain without some important players...

Sven Botman

Sven Botman was withdrawn with a knee issue in Newcastle’s 2-0 Carabao Cup semi-final second leg win over Arsenal, forcing him to miss the last two games against Birmingham City and Manchester City.

What has Eddie Howe said?

Speaking on Friday, Howe said: "Good news on the scan that (Botman) had after the injury - we don't think there's any long term issue there.

“Short term, there's a still a bit of pain there for him, so we think he'll miss this weekend but hopefully won't be far away for the following games.”

Joelinton

Joelinton sustained a knee issue in the recent defeat to Fulham. He has since missed the last three matches against Arsenal, Birmingham and Man City.

What has Eddie Howe said?

“We hope by that time he will be back fit and available [before the Carabao Cup final]. He's making good progress.

“Joe, when he approaches his injury recovery, is very positive, very driven to get back and to shave time off the estimated target that he's given, which is a great thing, but also we need to control that and make sure that he comes back in a really good place. But he's very positive at the moment.

Jamaal Lascelles

Club captain Jamaal Lascelles has been on the sidelines for 11 months recovering from an ACL injury.

What’s Eddie Howe said?

"He is still working his way back,” Howe said last month. “He is a little bit delayed from Sven's time. Every player is different, and every player responds differently to the operation. The stresses that you need to go through.

"He is making good progress and he has been the absolute model professional in terms of what he is being asked to do and how he is conducting himself.

"Without putting a definitive timeline on it, he is going to be a couple of months away."
