Sven Botman will meet his new teammates for the first time this afternoon when he undergoes his first Newcastle United training session.

Most of Eddie Howe’s squad reported back for pre-season training on Friday - the same day the Netherlands defender was officially confirmed as a Magpies player.

The 22-year-old flew to Tyneside last Monday to undergo his medical and finalise his £35million switch from Ligue 1 side Lille.

Botman visited the training ground and St James’ Park, where he posed for photos that were released when his move was announced via the club.

The central defender, who was on international duty with Holland’s under-23s in June, then travelled back to his holiday destination after being handed an extra few days off.

On Wednesday afternoon, Botman arrived at Benton to meet his new teammates and take part in his first training session.

Also pictured reporting back for pre-season was Bruno Guimaraes.

The marquee January signing was also handed extra days off - as was England pair Nick Pope and Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Emil Krafth, Chris Wood and Miguel Almiron - following his international commitments with Brazil last month.
