Oliver Glasner has ordered his Crystal Palace players to earn three consecutive Premier League wins when Newcastle United arrive at Selhurst Park on Wednesday.

The Eagles built on last weekend’s stunning victory over Liverpool by putting West Ham United to the sword. Goals from Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze, Emerson Palmieri and a Jean-Philippe Mateta brace earned a 5-2 triumph - piling more pressure on Hammers boss David Moyes.

Newcastle travel to South London in 48 hours buoyed by 10 days' rest and a good run of their own. Three wins and a draw have propelled the Magpies up to sixth and in pole position for a Europa League spot.

Eddie Howe’s men face a tricky test, with their only league win at Palace aside from during the Covid-19 lockdown-impacted season coming in 2009. Speaking after his side’s emphatic win against West Ham, Glasner challenged his team to beat Newcastle in midweek.

“The players (deserve) congratulations on the performance,” he said. “We asked the players, ‘Are we still hungry? Are we still ambitious?’ after the big win at Anfield because, so often, the concentration and focus maybe goes down a little bit.

“But the players started the game amazingly in the first 30 minutes. It was nice to watch as a manager. It was an excellent performance but now the game is played.

That’s three points we have, our first back-to-back wins in the Premier League this season. But let’s have the third one against Newcastle - that’s the big challenge.”
