The 10 players tipped to be Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United transfer Christmas list - gallery
Could the Magpies manager be set for some belated Christmas presents next month?
Eddie Howe has already been asked the question as he met the local and national media ahead of Newcastle United’s Boxing Day visit to Leicester City.
What would the Magpies manager want for Christmas? His answer was as professional as always, as he responded: “I certainly haven’t asked for anything but my quest for points will remain undiminished”.
But what if Howe got greedy? What if the former Bournemouth boss did desire something more than just wins against Leicester and Leeds United and wanted to have some new additions to his squad when the January transfer window opens for business next week?
It’s that time of year again. Transfer speculation increases, news outlets become more frenzied and managers become increasingly frustrated with questions about potential targets or players that may be leaving the club in the near future. With the transfer window now just a week away, NewcastleWorld looks at ten players that could make an ideal - and admittedly belated - Christmas present for the Magpies boss.

1. Harrison Ashby - West Ham United
There have been some indications Newcastle will look at add a young right-back to their squad. West Ham youngster Ashby was a reported target during the summer transfer window and is believed to have remained on their radar. Photo: Getty Images

2. Cody Drameh - Leeds United
Another young full-back said to be under consideration within the Magpies hierachy, Drameh has struggled to make an impact at Elland Road after an impressive loan spell at Cardiff City last season. Photo: George Wood

3. Ivan Fresneda - Real Valladolid
The Spanish youngster is attracting serious interest from the Premier League, Serie A and Ligue 1 - and Newcastle are one of several clubs said to be monitoring his progress after he broke into the Valladolid senior setup earlier this season. Photo: Getty Images

4. Borna Sosa - VfB Stuttgart
Not a priority move for the Magpies as Dan Burn continues to provide a reliable option and Matt Targett is also available, despite playing second fiddle to the former Brighton man. But a new left-back could be on the agenda and Sosa is one named linked with the Magpies in recent weeks. Photo: Getty Images
