Newcastle United’s complete focus is on securing a place in next season’s Champions League as their push for a top four place approaches a thrilling climax.

The Magpies bid to end their 20-year absence from European football’s elite received a major boost on Thursday night when Brighton and Hove Albion claimed a dramatic late win against fourth placed Manchester United to ensure Eddie Howe’s side tightened their grip on third place.

Qualification for the Champions League would increase United’s chances of landing their main transfer targets this summer as they look to boost their squad to compete on a number of fronts when the new season gets underway. With financial fair play regulations in mind, the Magpies could look to add some free transfer options to their ranks as several high profile players approach the end of their current contracts.
