Guimaraes, due to the strong form of Joelinton, Joe Willock and Jonjo Shelvey, was restricted to cameo appearances at home to Everton, Aston Villa and Brighton.

The Brazilian eventually made his full debut at Southampton, marking the ocassion with a stunning winner before retaining his place versus Chelsea and Everton.

He was named on the bench at Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday after playing at altitude with Brazil in Bolivia.

But with a full week of training at the club’s Benton training base behind him, Guimaraes has eyes on his first St James’ Park start.

“The only thing left for me to do is start my first home game,” Guimaraes said.
