Newcastle United could soon have its spending restricted even further as Premier League clubs weigh up restrictions on players wages.
According to The Times, clubs are considering a proposal which would restrict spending on wages to the amount the bottom team is paid in television revenue.

In 2021-22 season, last-place Norwich were paid just £100.6m in television money.
However, anchoring wage bills could have adverse effects for Newcastle United just as they are gaining momentum.
Qualifying for the Champions League means the Magpies are an attractive prospect to world-class footballers who consequently demand more financial reward.

Newcastle’s finances are already heavily restricted due to the constraints of Financial Fair Play.
The Telegraph recently reported United would be restricted to two big signings this summer because of the restrictions, which fans fear will see long-term targets such as Dominik Szoboszlai ruled out.
So, naturally, some of the top clubs are opposed to the anchoring proposal which was debated this week at a general meeting.
