The January transfer deals Newcastle United missed out on - including Manchester City and Aston Villa stars

Newcastle United can reflect on a positive January transfer window after sealing five new signings.

England international Kieran Trippier was the first to arrive, while Chris Wood wasn’t too far behind following his £25million move from Burnley.

The Magpies caught many top European clubs off guard when they swooped in to sign highly-rated midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon.

And deadline day was rounded-off as Matt Targett, on loan from Aston Villa, and Dan Burn, a boyhood Newcastle fan, were confirmed.

But among all the positivity, there were many frustrating moments for the club’s recruitment team and fans throughout the month as not every transfer bid or interest went to plan.
