The last Newcastle United side to win a Premier League game at Liverpool - including two former Anfield stars

History is not on the side of Eddie Howe’s men on Wednesday night.

Newcastle United will travel to Liverpool looking to put an end to a desperately poor run at Anfield.

Almost 30 years has passed since a Magpies side claimed all three points from a Premier League away game against the Reds - and there have been some heavy defeats during that time.

Draws in 2002, 2004, 2012, 2016 and 2021 are the closest a United side has come to taking a maximum return from their visit to one of English football’s most iconic stadiums.

There is no doubt Wednesday night’s game provides another tough challenge after the Reds romped to a 9-0 win over Bournemouth at the weekend.

But if Eddie Howe and his players need any inspiration, they should look back to the events of April 1994 when Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle claimed all three points on an emotional afternoon in front of the Kop.

The game marked the fifth anniversary of the Hillsborough and United’s contingent of former Liverpool favourites played their part in poignant tributes.

Once the action was underway, Keegan’s Entertainers put in a fine display to claim a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Robert Lee and Andy Cole.

NewcastleWorld takes a look at the men that wore black and white on a memorable day at Anfield.
