The Newcastle United players expected to miss Brentford - six dropped & two injured

Newcastle United play their second game in six days when they take on Brentford in West London this afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

The Magpies have recorded back-to-back wins against Manchester United and West Ham so far this week as they further underlined their hopes of finishing in the Premier League’s top four.

Eddie Howe’s side remained in the capital following Wednesday evening’s 5-1 victory at the London Stadium and prepared for a Brentford side, who also have a chance of securing European qualification as they sit ninth in the table.

“I think the Brentford game will be completely different (to West Ham),” said Howe. “We felt here that if we could get the first goal, it could help us with the crowd and the difficult situation West Ham are in.

“Brentford are in a totally different position. The feel of the stadium will be different, the reactions of the crowd will be different. We have to be prepared. Their style of play is very strong, so it’s a totally unique test.”

With Howe likely to stick with the same matchday squad that contributed to the win in midweek - here are the players set to miss the clash at the Gtech Community Stadium:
