The Magpies have until 11pm tonight to further bolster a playing squad that has seen Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood and Bruno Guimaraes arrive so far.
At least one key position remains left to fill, with a central defender top priority to help improve a backline that has conceded 43 Premier League goals this season.
But don’t rule signings in other areas of the pitch too as United’s recruitment team seek to provide Eddie Howe & Co with the best chance of achieving top-flight status.
Beyond that, players are also expected to leave St James’ Park as well, whether that be on loan or a permanent basis.
Howe must select a 25-man squad and naturally, with three arrivals so far, that means three current first-teamers will need to be removed.
It’s set to be a busy day – and here, NewcastleWorld takes a look at the deals – both ins and outs – that COULD happen across the day:
1. IN: Dan Burn
Newcastle have agreed a fee with Brighton and Hove Albion to bring the Geordie defender back to the North East. The final decision, however, rests with the player as talks over personal terms continue. Photo: Mike Hewitt
2. OUT: Freddie Woodman
Woodman was on the verge of joining Bournemouth on loan in the summer before United’s goalkeeper crisis unfolded. Now the situation has eased, the 24-year-old can depart if an offer arrives. Photo: George Wood
3. IN: Dean Henderson
Could Woodman’s departure pave the way for Henderson? Talks with Manchester United have reportedly taken place over the last 24 hours, though admittedly, it’s sounding like another difficult loan to complete. Photo: Gareth Copley
4. OUT: Mark Gillespie
The arrival of another goalkeeper could perhaps see the departure of another. Gillespie hasn’t played a Premier League match during his 18 months on Tyneside, with his last competitive appearance coming in September 2020. Photo: Pool
