Newcastle United have seen three bids turned down for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi

Crystal Palace shareholder Steve Parish has revealed Marc Guehi “lives properly every day” and is “amazing around the training ground” amid links to Newcastle United.

The Magpies are understood to have failed in three attempts to sign the England international. A staple in England’s run to the Euro 2024 final, Guehi is reportedly keen on a St James’ Park switch.

But the Eagles are yet to see their £65million valuation met - with Newcastle’s most recent bid worth around £60million including add-ons. Centre-back is a priority for Eddie Howe given long-term injuries to Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles.

Newcastle have made signing the right characters essential under Saudi-backed ownership and speaking to talkSPORT, Palace chairman Parish - who owns a minority stake in the club - insisted Guehi fits the bill. He said: “Look, he’s 24, homegrown, was in the team of the Euros, I’m telling you now this is a smashing lad.

“This is a guy who trains and lives his life properly every day. He’s an amazing personality and character to have around the training ground. He's not just a good defender, he carries it out of defence and breaks lines with his passing.

Parish also praised Newcastle as “respectful” for how they have handled negotiations - but doubled down on their offer being low. He added: "They are a very respectful club. They do things in the right way, but they are not giving us a decision to make at the moment.

“If they give us a decision to make, we will have to think about it and that may be the one change that you might see (Guehi leaving). But right now I expect him to be a Palace player at the start of the season."
