Newcastle United have enjoyed a growth in their social media reach over the last 12 months - although they have some way to go to match Premier League giants Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool.
A brand new study of the online reach of football clubs across England has been put together and the results have been published as part of a Social Media Super League.
With ambition and drive making a welcome return to St James Park following the PIF-led takeover of the club earlier this season, the Magpies will hope that a new era will deliver success on the pitch and increase their social media presence off it.
Unsurprisingly, given their status as one of the world’s biggest clubs and the return of Ronaldo last summer, Manchester United’s total following across Instagram, Facebook and Twitter dwarfs the rest of the Premier League.
Perhaps more surprisingly, there are four Premier League clubs sitting outside of the top 20 with the Championship represented on three occasions and one League One club finding their way into the rankings.
