Anthony Gordon made a winning return to Everton as Newcastle United swept aside Sean Dyche’s men at Goodison Park.
Callum Wilson opened the scoring in the 28th minute but the Magpies had to dig deep before Joelinton doubled the lead inside the final quarter of an hour.

Gordon was introduced with three minutes plus stoppage time remaining, and was loudly booed by the Everton fans who decided to stay until the full-time whistle.
As Eddie Howe’s squad went over to thank the 3,000 travelling Geordies, Gordon was captured joining in the celebrations - singing along to ‘EI EI EI EI O, up the Premier League we go’ chant.
Newcastle moved eight points clear of fifth place Tottenham Hotspur in their quest for Champions League qualification. Everton, meanwhile, stayed in the relegation zone - two points from safety.

“I think it was a good time to bring him, almost to get it out the way for him. He’s played, it’s done, and at that stage of the game it was pretty much over. I think it was really good thing for him to just mentally deal with and hopefully move on now and focus on his career for us.”
Gordon ended his 11-year spell at Goodison Park in January to join Newcastle in a £45million deal, and his exit has left a bitter taste in the mouths of Evertonians.
In the days leading up to his Newcastle switch, the former England under-21s international failed to show up at Everton’s Finch Farm training base in a reported effort to force through a transfer.

Ahead of his return to Goodison Park, Gordon defended the way in which he joined Newcastle - insisting “a lot of media stuff is not true”.
Asked by the United matchday programme if he had ‘ever read, seen or heard anything about yourself in the media that blatantly wasn’t true’, Gordon replied: “Probably everything from the last year, I think!
“I don’t blame the media because it can happen, and they can get fed from outside sources. But yeah, especially with how I got this move and stuff, a lot of that wasn’t true. It was misconstrued.
