Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson are on the bench for Newcastle United - as Eddie Howe names three changes for the visit to Manchester City.

Jamaal Lascelles returns to captain the Magpies in place of Fabian Schar, who limped off during the 1-0 loss to Liverpool last Saturday and partner Dan Burn in a back four.

Schar, although didn’t train in the build-up to the game today, is named among the substitutes along with Trippier and Wilson.

Trippier hasn’t played since mid-February with a broken foot, while Wilson has been sidelined since December through a calf problem.

There is no Jonjo Shelvey or Joe Willock - both started against the Reds - in the matchday squad altogether, as Sean Longstaff and Chris Wood are recalled.

Allan Saint-Maximin starts, despite appearing to criticise his teammates during an interview with French magazine So Foot in midweek.

Howe called a team meeting to address the interview, which he insists was taken out of context, on Friday to prevent any fallouts among the United squad.

Newcastle United XI: Dubravka, Krafth, Lascelles, Burn, Targett, Longstaff, Guimaraes, Joelinton, Almiron, Saint-Maximin, Wood. Subs: Darlow, Dummett, Schar, Wilson, Ritchie, Trippier, Manquillo, Murphy, Gayle.
