Three Newcastle United players absent from Tokyo training as six goalkeepers take part

Newcastle United’s players spent Tuesday morning training in Tokyo for the first time.

The Magpies squad arrived at the Komazawa Olympic Park for a short training session ahead of Wednesday’s first friendly match against Urawa Red Diamonds at the Saitama Stadium (11am kick-off BST).

NewcastleWorld were given access to 15 minutes of the session and were able to spot who was - and who wasn’t - present out of the 29 players that travelled.

As already confirmed. Kieran Trippier and Anthony Gordon are the only two players yet to return after their involvement in Euro 2024 with England. Meanwhile, Matt Targett and other injured players such as Callum Wilson, Jamaal Lascelles, Sven Botman and Lewis Miley stayed at home.

Youngsters Joe White, Alex Murphy and Garang Kuol were also omitted from the travelling squad despite being involved in the training camp at Adidas Headquarters.

Konnichiwa! Newcastle United are in Japan - and so too are NewcastleWorld!

Our Newcastle United writer Jordan Cronin is there all week, providing coverage of the tour, behind the scenes video and analysis from Tokyo.

Eddie Howe's men take on Urawa Red Diamonds at the Saitama Stadium on Wednesday, July 31. They then face J.League runners-up Yokohama F. Marinos on Saturday, August 3.
