Newcastle United trio Miguel Almiron, Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier have been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for October.

Eddie Howe’s side remained unbeaten last month, earning wins against Fulham, Brentford, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, and also held Manchester United to a goalless draw at Old Trafford. Sixteen points from a possible 18 has lifted the Magpies into the Champions League places.

The Paraguayan emerged as Newcastle’s latest transformation story under Howe after scoring six goals in six games - a Premier League joint-highest alongside Manchester City star Erling Haaland.

Speaking about Almiron’s form, Howe said recently: “I don’t think Miggy is motivated by anything other than trying to be his best for Newcastle and for the supporters, who absolutely love him and rightly so.

“For me, he’s given me everything from day one, very committed to the team. He’s a real team player and he’s getting the recognition that he deserves. You can’t underestimate the quality of the goals that he’s delivered for us.

“I don’t think I’ve noticed a difference in his character. He’s been very consistent – that’s a strength – he’s been very happy every day, very pleased to be part of the team, has very close friends within the squad.”

October was a special month for Guimaraes, not just on the pitch, but off it following the birth of his baby boy Matteo. Guimaraes was instrumental in midfield, registering two assists as well as netting twice in the 5-1 win over Brentford at St. James’ Park.

“He’s absolutely a bargain because he’s had a huge effect on the team and the club. In today’s market, that is a relatively modest sum - which I can’t really believe I’m saying - but it is,” Howe said after the Bees game. It’s an amazing thing for us to have him, it’s not just the player, it’s the person as well. I can’t say how good a person he is.

“He’s a pleasure to coach and be around. He’s a really positive person, an energiser and someone I love to coach and be with. I think everyone here connected with the club – me, the players, the supporters – absolutely love him.”

Kieran Trippier

Trippier, meanwhile, has captained the Magpies throughout the campaign, providing two assists, as well as helping to secure three clean sheets. Howe believes the 31-year-old should start for England at the World Cup.

“Absolutely. Just look at his performances this year, he’s been incredible,” Howe said. “Even last year, in the brief time he played, he made a massive impact, both on the pitch and off it, in terms of his leadership.

“He has continued to do the same and we’re seeing more of him because he’s been fitter for longer.

“Just look at the first goal we scored against Brentford (5-1 win last weekend). It was his cross from the short corner, and it can really be underestimated how difficult that skill is, to put it exactly where Bruno needed it to be to score. It was an incredible highlight of his technical quality.

“But also his defending is of a very good level - I can’t speak highly enough of him.’
