Tottenham Hotspur aimed a sly dig at Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson following their 4-1 win on Sunday evening.

A brace from Richarlison plus goals from Destiny Udogie and Heung-Min Son saw Spurs end their five-match winless run and inflict back-to-back Premier League defeats on the Magpies.

And at full-time, Spurs' social media team took the opportunity to mock Wilson by posting the iconic Michael Jordan "and I took that personally" quote and replaced the NBA legend with Richarlison’s face.

This was in reference to the comments Wilson and West Ham United star Michail Antonio made on the BBC Footballers' Football Podcast last season about Richarlison.

Antonio laughed: “He's scored four times this season. Three of the times he's been offside [and] he's taken his top off four times this season.” Wilson then added: “He's got four yellows – he's almost on a suspension."

Richarlison wasn't impressed by the pair's behaviour and fired back, writing “how many goals do they have in the World Cup?”

Before his brace against Newcastle, the Brazilian had scored five goals in 48 appearances since his £60million transfer from Everton in the summer of 2022.

Reflecting on Richarlison's performance against Newcastle, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou said: "Richarlison was important for us at the start of the year too, when he wasn't fully fit. He's come back, that's 70 minutes he's played.

"I thought he did really well today, finishing off his stuff. But also, he worked really hard for the team. A good performance from him."
