Transfer expert claims Arsenal want more than just Alexander Isak from Newcastle United

Arsenal are weighing up a summer move for Newcastle United talisman Bruno Guimaraes, according to reports.

The Brazilian has been at his mercurial best for the Magpies this season despite the crippling injury crisis. With all else crumbling around him, Guimaraes has missed one Premier League game through suspension, the 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth in November.

He has, at times, donned the Superman cape to get Newcastle over the line - most notably at Nottingham Forest and Fulham. Penning a new deal last year did little to quash transfer talk as NewcastleWorld understands the midfielder has a £100million release clause in his contract.

Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are the European heavyweights reportedly chasing Guimaraes. In truth, those three are likely the only clubs that can afford the 26-year-old as FFP/PSR restrictions continue to tighten the purse strings.

However, transfer expert David Ornstein, speaking on The Athletic Football podcast, named Arsenal as a potential destination. The Gunners were rumoured to have been snubbed by Guimaraes shortly before his Toon switch in January 2022. 

Reports have suggested they are in the market for Newcastle goal machine Alexander Isak - with fresh claims hinting at Guimaraes following suit. Ornstein said: “Somebody who I think of off the top of my head that Arsenal and other clubs really like is Bruno Guimaraes. He can play as an eight or as a six. 

"Newcastle hope to keep hold of him. There is a release clause though and, (for) anyone who is going to take him, he has to deliver straight away.”
