The Magies have enjoyed a superb campaign so far, sitting in third place and holding on to a Champions League spot. But there is still a long way to go in the season, and Howe may well need more depth in certain areas if his side are to qualify for Europe, especially given the depth advantage some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs possess.
With that in mind, we have taken a look at some of the transfer rumours surrounding St James’ Park, with two likely transfers and four that are less likely this winter.
1. Cody Drameh (Leeds)
Drameh has been linked with a move to Newcastle after becoming discontent at Leeds United. The defender is a talent at 21, and Newcastle have shown they want to add young talents to their squad. This one goes down as likely.
2. Youri Tielemans (Leicester)
Tielemans is out of contract at the end of the season, and he has emerged as a possible target. The likely price for Tielemans combined with some of the hesitance from big clubs makes this one more likely than most.
3. Adrien Rabiot (Juventus)
Rabiot is one of the recent links, and he is another player who is out of contract at the end of the season. Rabiot is attracting plenty of attention, and his high wages could be an issue for a number of clubs in January. Given the Frenchman could be available for free in the summer, clubs may hold off, and either way, this one is unlikely for Newcastle in January.
4. Moises Caicedo (Brighton)
The Brighton star has attracted plenty of interest over recent months after impressive form. He is not likely to be cheap, and Newcastle may want to spend the cash on a more experienced midfielder.
