Newcastle United have confirmed their latest injury blow ahead of Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup fourth round clash against Manchester United.
Sven Botman hasn’t featured since scoring his first goal for the club during the 8-0 victory at Sheffield United in September.
Howe said the Dutchman was ‘back on grass’ last week but he has seemingly suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury. And it stands, Newcast arw unsure when the defender will be back.
“Botman is unclear at the moment, we’re going day-by-day with that one currently,” said Howe. He later added: “There’s an issue there and we’re working through various options to try to diagnose the injury problem. Perhaps [it is a longer-term injury], we’re still awaiting clarity on what is happening with his situation.”
The 23-year-old is one of several players who will miss the trip to Old Trafford as Howe hints at changes.

1. 2. Sandro Tonali - August 2024
Tonali has been handed a 10 month ban from football following an investigation into illegal betting activity by the Italian Football Federation.
3. Alexander Isak - Chelsea (H) - 25/11
The Swede was forced off just 14 minutes in v Dortmund after suffering a recurrence of his groin problem. Isak has undergone a scan and won’t return before the November international break at the earliest.
4. Jacob Murphy - February 2024
Murphy is set to undergo shoulder surgery which will likely see him sidelined for three months.
