Former Newcastle United winger Laurent Robert is part of the Paris St Germain contingent in Newcastle ahead of the Champions League group stage tie between the two clubs.

Fans waiting outside the PSG team hotel on the morning of the fixture were surprised to see the former fan favourite take to the streets of the Quayside before heading away with PSG members of staff.

The squad are staying at a Quayside hotel and on Tuesday evening the club confirmed the left footed maestro is on Tyneside as a guest of the French club.

Starting his career at Montpellier in France, Robert signed with PSG in 1999, spending two full seasons in the capital before his move to St James’ Park.

He left Newcastle in 2006 after scoring 32 goals in 181 appearances. He retired in 2009 after a spell in Greece.
