Newcastle United staff, players and owners have arrived at the Stadium of Light to a hostile atmosphere.

Eddie Howe's side take on bitter rivals Sunderland in the third round of the FA Cup in the first Tyne-Wear derby in almost eight years.

And Geordie defender Dan Burn was among the United players to soak up the pre-match reception by cupping his ear to the booing Sunderland fans.

Burn, a boyhood Newcastle fan, is playing in his first North East derby.

"Class, ain't it? I was just thinking, since I've managed to get back to the club, we have managed to get back to the League Cup final, the Champions League and now I'm going to have the opportunity, hopefully, to play against Sunderland," Burn said last month.

"It's just crazy. I've always said I wanted Sunderland to be in the Premier League so we can have these games more regularly. To be able to do it is going to be class.”

Burn and his teammate will hope to become the first Magpies side to beat Sunderland since August 2011 when Ryan Taylor scored a free-kick.
