Champions League football is back at St James’ Park as Newcastle United take on Paris Saint-Germain.

It was a moment St James’ Park had long been waiting for, 20 years to be precise, as the Champions League anthem played through the speakers.

While thousands of supporters heard it live from the San Siro, the return to St James’ Park tonight was the first opportunity for at least thousands of others.

The visit of French champions Paris Saint-Germain marked United’s first home Champions League game for 20 years. And ahead of kick-off, Newcastle’s proud home was a cauldron of noise.
