Watford’s Joao Pedro has already given transfer verdict amid Newcastle United links

What has Pedro said about his future?

Newcastle United are reportedly trying to throw Watford striker Joao Pedro a Premier League lifeline.

The Brazilian was part of the Hornets’ side relegated to the Championship last season and has now emerged on Eddie Howe’s radar as he eyes more additions before the end of the transfer window.

Pedro, 20, has been a key player for his current side since making the move to Vicarage Road back in 2020 and is being tipped for a bright future in the game.

According to a report by the Northern Echo, Newcastle have seen their opening offer for him rejected.

What has Pedro said about his future?

Pedro has been linked with a move away from Watford throughout his time in Hertfordshire.

Rob Edwards’ side will be desperate to keep hold of him as they look to gain an immediate promotion back from the second tier this term.

The player has already given an insight into his future plans and speaking to the Watford Observer earlier this year, he signalled his desire to play in the Champions League:

“Of course I have the ambition to go to a big team, play in the Champions League, play for the Brazilian national team. Every player has that, but that’s a consequence of my work. I have to do my best no matter where I am.”

Edwards has been full of praise for Pedro so far in this campaign and said after their opening day win over Sheffield United, as per the Watford Observer:

“Joao has that licence to find spaces. Whether he goes outside or comes deep, he knows he can go and look for the space. He’s a clever player, and he’ll find the gaps.

“As coaches we can help him, but he’s such an intelligent player already that he will find the spaces on the pitch. He then knows has the freedom to express himself.”

What now?

You can see why Newcastle would want to sign Pedro. He is young, has the potential to drastically improve in the futureand has already got valuable experience under his belt.

However, it appears Watford don’t want to lose him for below what they value him, especially after losing Emmanuel Dennis to Nottingham Forest last week week.
