Gabriel Martinelli expects a "difficult" challenge when Arsenal attempt to overturn a two-goal deficit against Newcastle United tonight.

Eddie Howe’s men welcome the Gunners to St James’ Park knowing they are on the cusp of another Wembley showdown. Newcastle stunned Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates last month to place one foot in next month’s final.

Given how much is riding on the Magpies to end their trophy drought, nerves will be jangling around Tyneside come 8pm tonight. Newcastle have hardly had ideal preparation for the clash, losing their last two home fixtures.

Arsenal, on the other hand, put Manchester City to the sword in brutal fashion with a 5-1 win to reassert their Premier League charge. Martinelli played the entire 90 minutes on Sunday and vowed to attack the Magpies tonight.

“We know our qualities,” he said. “It is not because we lost 2-0 in the last game, we are going to go there to win the game and to score three, four, five. Let’s see - the game is going to be really hard, for sure.

“It is going to be another battle. We know how difficult it is to play there. But we have an amazing team and we trust ourselves. It is hard to play there and they are a really good side, but we have full confidence in our squad and we trust ourselves.”

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta viewed the victory over City as the “best preparation” for the Newcastle test. He said: “We had a bit of luck in certain moments and then we had the opportunity (to attack).

“Our intentions, our aggression with the ball, how we wanted to hurt them, and the way we finished the actions, were exceptional. That's the best preparation we can have for Wednesday, and that was the only thing I was interested in.”
