'Weak' 4/10 as 4.5/10 'huffed & puffed' - Newcastle United player ratings from 3-2 defeat to Chelsea

Newcastle United player ratings vs Chelsea: Goals from Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer and Mykhailo Mudryk cancels out Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy.

Newcastle United remained 10th in the Premier League table following a 3-2 defeat at Chelsea.

Eddie Howe named two changes from the 3-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Kieran Trippier, out with a calf injury, was replaced by Tino Livramento while Miguel Almiron was selected ahead Jacob Murphy on the left-hand side.

Newcastle headed to Stamford Bridge four points and one place above their hosts in the Premier League table but fell behind in the seventh minute when Cole Palmer's shot was flicked home by Nicolas Jackson.

United's evening then took another difficult turn when Anthony Gordon was forced off with a knee injury in the 40th minute. Murphy was introduced.

But the Magpies responded to setback well and an incredible solo effort by Alexander Isak levelled proceedings in the 43rd minute. The Swede was played in by Bruno Guimaraes before cutting inside of Axel Disai and curling the ball past Djordje Petrovic in the Chelsea goal.

Howe's men started the second-half poorly and went 2-1 down just before the hour-mark when Palmer found a pocket of space on the edge the box to fire low past Martin Dubravka.

Chelsea then made it game, set and match inside the remaining 15 minutes when substitute Mykhailo Mudryk raced through. Murphy's stunning strike was a late consolation strike as United remain without a win at Stamford Bridge since 2012.
