Yankuba Minteh’s future has been discussed once again as the Newcastle United winger continues to make a big impact during his loan spell at Dutch champions Feyenoord.

The former Odense winger became the Magpies first signing of last summer when they agreed a £5.7m deal with the Danish club. However, the 19-year-old was immediately sent out on a season-long loan with Feyenoord and has gained valuable experience during his time with the Rotterdam giants.

After impressing in the opening month of his spell at the De Kuip Stadium, a hamstring injury put a temporary halt on Minteh’s progress - but the Gambia international has a rich vein of form in recent weeks as Feyenoord look to rein in current leaders PSV Eindhoven in a bid to retain their Eredivisie title.

Minteh has scored four goals and provided one assist in his last five appearances and that has led to speculation the winger could spend another season with the club as Newcastle consider what steps to take to further his development. Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has confirmed the Dutch club will take such a move into consideration but also admitted there may be other options for Minteh to take.

Speaking after Minteh scored in Sunday’s 3-0 home win against Heracles Almelo, he said: “There are naturally several parties involved in that: Feyenoord, himself and Newcastle as well. He is developing really well, but it’s always a question of what a player costs, whether he can be loaned out again, what the other options are on the market and what we can pay.

"That is a consideration we will have to make in the coming months, but it’s clear he is developing well. Maybe they are very keen to have him back if they see that he is developing very well. That they think he is already ready for that level. I just don’t know if the regulations allow that, but we’ll see in the coming weeks.”

Minteh will be back in action next Sunday afternoon when Feyenoord travel to Heerenveen.
