West Ham United dealt major injury concern in boost to Newcastle United & Chelsea

Newcastle United are locked in a battle with West Ham United and Chelsea to finish seventh in the Premier League.

West Ham United are sweating over Jarrod Bowen’s fitness after the England international was forced off against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

The 27-year-old had to be substituted in the 54th minute as West Ham trailed 1-0 at Molineux. But even without Bowen, the Hammers managed to come from behind to win following goals from Lucas Paqueta and James Ward-Prowse.

However, Bowen’s withdrawal is a concern for David Moyes’ men ahead of their Europa League quarter-final first leg against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday. The former Hull City forward has netted 18 times this campaign.

“We have to hope he’s okay,” said Moyes. “You need all your top players at this stage of the season and Jarrod is one who’s been doing great for us. It looks like he’s had a knee into his hip, or his back. It’s not a twist or anything like that. He’s really stiff and I’ve had one or two of those myself and they don’t go away too quick.

“We need to hope it doesn’t linger. I asked Jarrod how he’s feeling and he said he feels sore. I’m just hoping it’s not too bad. Every week you need your big players to be ready, but we need him this week.”

Newcastle United and Chelsea are locked in a battle with West Ham for seventh, a position that guarantees European qualification for next season. Eddie Howe’s men sit one point and one place behind the Hammers with a game in-hand.

United stayed within touching distance after Bruno Guimaraes - on his 100th appearance - scored an 81st minute winner away to Fulham on Saturday.
