Newcastle United Women midfielder Georgia Gibson revealed Amanda Staveley celebrated with the team after their emphatic 6-1 victory at St James’ Park.

A record-breaking 24,092 fans were in attendance as a brace each from Beth Guy and Charlotte Potts, plus goals from Gibson and Lee recorded a massive win.

Gibson is the only Women’s player to score at St James’ Park during every single appearance, as well netting three times in front of the Gallowgate End.

“Amanda had a little dance [in the dressing room],” Gibson revealed. “Then they [Amanda & Mehrdad Ghodoussi] joined in the team photo.”

Since brokering the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia-led takeover in October 2021, Staveley has been a pioneering figure on Tyneside trying to boost the profile of the Women’s team.

The Ripon-born financer has not been shy in talking about her ambitions for Newcastle’s men and women’s sides, with the co-owner wanting to see both compete at the top of the Premier League and Women’s Super League respectively.

“They’ve show us and reassured us that they are here to support us,” Gibson added. We are here to be completely united as one and they fully support the team.”

By scoring six, Becky Langley’s Lassess moved onto the same goal difference (+35) as league leaders Durham Cestria. Who lifts the FA Women’s National League Division One North title is likely to be decided on that merit.

Crucially, United’s fate is in their own hands ahead of remaining fixtures away to Leeds United, Bradford and Barnsley.
