Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes labelled his side's 3-0 defeat to Everton as a "very bad day at the office".

Goals from Dwight McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure and substitute Beto inside the remaining 20 minutes inflicted a fifth defeat of the Premier League season on the Magpies, who, in turn, have won just once on the road in 2022-23 - an 8-0 victory at Sheffield United in September.

Having suffered a late capitulation, frustrations were high at the full-time whistle and a melee between the two sets of players was started by Guimaraes when he pointed his finger at Jordan Pickford before pushing the Everton goalkeeper.

Fabian Schar then got involved and eventually had to be escorted down the tunnel. Pickford appeared to make fun of the coming together by clenching his fists in front of the home supporters as he headed back to the dressing room.

It was an evening to forget for United and Guimaraes was quick to react on social media after the game, where he called for everyone to stick together.

The Brazilian posted on X: "Very bad day in the office today! We stick together in the bad and the good moments! Always for you @NUFC"

It's a quick turnaround for the Magpies, who face Tottenham Hotspur in North London on Sunday. Spurs are without a victory in five matches and three points for Eddie Howe's side will see them leapfrog their hosts in the table.
