Newcastle United Women boss Becky Langley found it difficult to heap enough praise on ‘pioneering’ Amanda Staveley ahead of the Lasses St James’ Park bout against Bradford City.
Ever since Amanda Staveley walked through the doors as co-owner of Newcastle United, she has been pushing to increase the presence and stature of the Women’s team.

That support and willingness to see Newcastle Women succeed and become role models certainly hasn’t been lost or forgotten by Langley, the manager Staveley allowed to go full-time this season.
‘She’ll probably text me or I’ll text her,” said Langley. “I know it’s her birthday today [Tuesday] so I’ve dropped her a message anyway.
“I think she’s been absolutely outstanding in terms of pioneering Women’s sport and Women’s football at the club so I think she’ll have some words of wisdom.”

It’s been a tough season for Langley having to manage several injuries to key players and competing with a top-class Durham Cestria side, but the victory against their title rivals left Staveley delighted.
“She FaceTimed me and the players after the Durham Cestria game so we just need to repay her for all of her support.”
Having a Woman at Newcastle United in such a powerful and important position is just another way that the club are continuing to empower women and offer role models for younger girls.
