Newcastle United have reportedly ‘renewed’ their interest in Leicester City star James Maddison as the Magpies look to add ‘five quality additions’ to their ranks during the summer transfer window.

The England attacking midfielder has endured a difficult season as injuries have limited his influence on the Foxes as they battle against relegation from the Premier League. Ahead of this weekend’s fixtures, Dean Smith’s side are sat in the bottom three and face a challenging trio of fixtures to end their season with home games against in-form Fulham and West Ham United sandwiched a visit to Newcastle.

Newcastle United could once again pursue a deal for Leicester City's James Maddison this summer.

The Telegraph have claimed Maddison discussed a potential move to Tyneside with Magpies stars Callum Wilson and Nick Pope after the trio were named in the England squad for the World Cup Finals in Qatar last year and suggests both Magpies players ‘painted a positive picture of life on Tyneside’.

Relegation would increased United’s hopes of making St James Park a permanent home for Maddison as the Foxes are said to be ‘resigned’ to selling the player should they drop into the Championship. However, they will face competition from a number of Premier League clubs and the report has stated the Magpies will only pursue a move for the former Norwich City star if they are convinced the player is ‘keen to make the move’ after being disappointed when their initial pursuit of Maddison ended in disappointment last summer.

United are said to have made three separate offers for the Foxes star after being led to believe both he and Leicester were open to completing a deal - but were left to consider other targets after a final £50m offer was rejected by their Premier League rivals. However, the report states the Magpies are ready to make another attempt to lure Maddison to St James Park this summer as they believe he will ‘add a creative spark’ and ‘fit into their high energy, attacking style’.
