When Sven Botman is expected on Tyneside ahead of Newcastle United transfer

Sven Botman is set to undergo his medical at Newcastle United today ahead of his rumoured £39million switch from Lille.

The Magpies agreed a fee with the Ligue 1 club on Friday evening after chasing the central defender for nearly six months.

United had three bids rejected for the 22-year-old during the January transfer window, though it was a transfer the club always planned to revisit this summer.

One potential sticking point, as we know, was AC Milan’s interest in the player.

Milan are the current Serie A champions and have one of the greatest defenders the world has seen in Paolo Maldini as their techincal director.

However, regardless of Botman’s feelings towards Milan, the Italian giants were unable to meet Lille’s asking price.

Once they accepted Newcastle’s offer, Botman was happy to push forward with the move.

He’s expected to arrive on Tyneside for the first time around lunchtime to undergo his medical and complete all the relevant paperwork.

The Netherlands under-21s international is in line to become United’s third senior signing of the summer after Matt Targett and Nick Pope.
