Isaac Hayden will miss Newcastle United’s Premier League clash with Manchester United tonight through suspension.

The central midfielder had started the Magpies’ previous two games at Liverpool and Manchester City - both ending in defeats.

Bookings in both those encounters took Hayden’s yellow card count up to five, ruling him out for the visit of Ralf Rangnick’s Red Devils.

Who could replace Isaac Hayden in midfield?

Jonjo Shelvey is the prime candidate if he wins his race for fitness having missed the 4-0 defeat to City with muscular problems.

Other options include Sean Longstaff and Jeff Hendrick - two players who are yet to start a game under Eddie Howe.

Last time out at St James’ Park, Joelinton and Joe Willock featured in central midfield alongside Isaac Hayden.

Who else will miss the visit of Manchester United?

Jamal Lewis (hamstring) and Federico Fernandez (thigh) are ruled out until mid-January at the earliest.

Paul Dummett is stepping up his recovery from a calf injury, which has sidelined him for the entire campaign thus far.

Meanwhile, Emil Krafth and Javier Manquillo suffered from illness last week but are likely to return for Man United.
