Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier has withdrawn from the England squad ahead of Monday evening's Euro 2024 qualifier in North Macedonia.

The 33-year-old played a full 90 minutes as the Three Lions beat Malta 3-0 at Wembley on Friday. Trippier was due to fly to South East Europe with his international teammates on Sunday afternoon but has left the camp due to a "personal matter".

"Kieran played 90 minutes as the Three Lions defeated Malta 2-0 in a UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier at Wembley on Friday but will miss Monday's trip to North Macedonia."

England later tweeted: "22 players are out for today's session at @SpursOfficial's training ground ahead of our final #EURO2024 qualifier. "@trippier2 has departed the #ThreeLions camp, owing to a personal matter and will not travel to North Macedonia."

The Magpies return to Premier League action on Saturday evening when they host Chelsea at St James' Park (kick-off 3pm).

As it stands, Eddie Howe is definitely without 10 senior players; Sandro Tonali (banned), Jacob Murphy (shoulder), Dan Burn (back), Elliot Anderson (back), Sven Botman (knee), Harvey Barnes (toe), Callum Wilson (hamstring), Lewis Hall (ineligible), Matt Targett (hamstring) and Javier Manquillo (groin).

The United head coach hopes to welcome back Alexander Isak, while it is hoped Fabian Schar, Miguel Almiron and Sean Longstaff are fit to feature, although the latter is a major doubt at this stage.
