Inter Milan are clear favourites to sign Torino defender Gleison Bremer, according to Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari.

Bremer is a name of interest to Newcastle United fans, with the Brazilian first linked with the club during the January transfer window.

It is understood the Magpies did hold a genuine interest in Bremer, who is part of the same agency as Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood, but are prioritising other targets, such as Lille’s Sven Botman.

Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus and AC Milan are also admirers but as per Longari, via FootballTransfers, the 25-year-old is closing in on a move to Inter.

Bremer emerged as one of Italy’s best central defenders last season after he was named Serie A’s defender of the year for 2021/22.

What has reportedly helped Inter’s cause is the imminent arrival of Cagliari right-back Raoul Bellanova, who shares the same agent as Bremer - CAA Base.

Bellanova shares the same agent as Bremer, with the Base Soccer Agency enjoying a close working relationship with Inter. Base also assisted Robin Gosens’ move to Inter from Atalanta in January.

Bremer will reportedly cost around £25million, a huge contrast to the £42m rumoured price tag at the beginning of the year.

Similarly, Bremer’s reported transfer to Inter could impact United’s pursuit of Botman.

Reports over the weekend suggested AC Milan had turned their focus to Bremer but after seemingly losing out to Inter, Botman could be back high on the agenda.
