Eddie Howe has provided an injury update on Fabian Schar, Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin at Newcastle United.

Schar twice went down to receive treatment during the first-half of the Magpies’ 2-1 win at Southampton but managed to continue.

Meanwhile, both Joelinton (groin) and Saint-Maximin (illness) missed the trip to the South Coast.

Joelinton has travelled with the United squad, who are staying down south ahead of the trip to Chelsea on Sunday. Saint-Maximin, however, hasn’t.

So, will the trio be fit to play at Stamford Bridge?

Howe revealed: “Fabian (Schar) has had a groin issue for quite some time that he’s been managing. We hope he’ll be OK.

“Joelinton has also been managing a groin problem and he’s come off in a couple of games with it.

“He’s gone down injured and always managed to carry on but yesterday (Wednesday) I think the pain got too much for him.

“We don’t anticipate that keeping him out too long but it was enough for this game. We know in the games we have to come we wanted to protect him.

“Maxi’s ill. We hope that’s not a long-term thing for him. I don’t know if he’ll be back for Chelsea or not.”

The Magpies can make it 10 games unbeaten if they avoid defeat against the Blues.
