Newcastle United have seen two bids rejected for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes Marc Guehi would prefer to join Liverpool than Newcastle United.

Both clubs have been linked with moves for the 24-year-old this summer. As of yet, the Magpies are the only club to make a concrete approach.

Various sources claim Toon chiefs have seen two bids rejected for Guehi, who starred for England at Euro 2024. The second offer - worth around £50million - was rejected by the Eagles on Thursday.

Palace are reportedly holding out for £65million - with three weeks of the window remaining. They have already offloaded talented winger Michael Olise to Bayern Munich for a big-money fee earlier this summer.

Newcastle are targeting a centre-back to succeed Fabian Schar long-term, with the Swiss international turning 33 in December. Guehi is the No.1 target following his Euros heroics but ex-owner Jordan suggested Liverpool could hijack the deal.

The Reds are also yet to make a major breakthrough in the transfer market and are short of options at centre-back. He told talkSPORT: “If you’re Palace, the more competitive tension you have, the more revenue you get from the deal.

"As a Palace fan, irrespective of being a former owner, I couldn't care less where he goes - as long as it’s not Brighton! As long as I get the maximum amount of economic return from it. If the player wants to go and I’m commercially obligated to let him go then, whoever it is, if you’re going to choose between Liverpool and Newcastle, with due respect, you’re going to choose Liverpool.”
