‘Won nothing’ - Roy Keane mocks Anthony Gordon with X-rated Newcastle United dig

Anthony Gordon has been a revelation for Newcastle United this season and is on the cusp of a Euro 2024 call-up

Roy Keane has highlighted Newcastle United’s trophy drought when discussing Anthony Gordon’s lofty career ambitions.

Toon chiefs forked out £40million to lure the winger from Everton 16 months ago. Gordon’s early months were underwhelming but, once adapted to his new surroundings, the 23-year-old became a Premier League force.

An impressive 20 goal contributions across all competitions earned Gordon an England call-up - where he staked his claim for a Euro 2024 spot. The forward is also likely to scoop Newcastle’s Player of the Season award for his stellar performances in 2023-24.

Speaking to former Manchester United captain Gary Neville on The Overlap, Gordon opened up about using visualisation and meditation techniques to improve his game. The admission surprised supporters used to Toon star’s confrontational on-field style.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright was impressed by Gordon’s dedication to reach the top. He said: “Anthony Gordon is doing something else to take him to the next level. This is what I like about him. He recognised that he had to go to Newcastle as soon as the offer came up.

“If you look at where Everton are going, he’s made the right decision. He’s on that road (to success) and he’s seen it.”

However, ex-Sunderland manager keen refused to get carried away, poking fun at Newcastle’s bare trophy cabinet. Gordon had laid out his career ambitions to Neville - which included ending the Magpies' agonising wait for silverware.

“He’s going to a club that have won nothing for 50 years, f****** hell," he replied.
