Newcastle United are reportedly ‘mulling over’ a move for Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic - and could be handed a boost by Manchester United’s reluctance to confirm their own interest.

The former Borussia Dortmund star has been on international duty with the United States and appeared in all four of their World Cup fixtures, scoring the only goal of their group stage win against Iran and provided an assist in the round-of-16 exit at the hands of the Netherlands.

The tournament provided a rare spell on consistent performances for Pulisic, who has struggled to make an impact at Chelsea over the last 12 months. He made just 21 starts in all competitions last season and has found similar frustration during the current campaign with just five starts to his name prior to the break for the World Cup.

A number of clubs in Serie A and the Premier League were linked with a move for Pulisic during the summer transfer window - and three are believed to retain an interest as the January window approaches.

TEAMtalk have revealed Newcastle and Arsenal are both considering moves - but have suggested Manchester United’s hesitancy. Speaking of the Red Devils’ stance over a possible move for Pulisic, journalist Mark Ogden told ESPN late last month: “I’ve been told Manchester United will consider a loan move for Christian Pulisic when the window opens next month. Man Utd, Arsenal and Newcastle have been made aware by those that represent Pulisic that he is available and keen to move in January.

“I don’t believe Man Utd will be prepared to spend money in January to sign Pulisic. That applies to most clubs in the EPL right now – January isn’t a market where they tend to do big business. But a loan move is certainly a possibility because they’ve let Cristiano Ronaldo go. Erik ten Hag does need additional forwards to choose from.”
