Transfer Deadline Day is almost here and clubs across the Premier League and beyond have till the end of Monday to get any final deals over the line for the second half of the season.

Newcastle United have yet to complete any first team additions but striker Chris Wood has joined Nottingham Forest on loan. However, there does appear to have been a bit of activity behind the scenes at St James’ Park and a deal for Everton’s Anthony Gordon appears to still be a possibility if the two clubs can agree on a fee.

Meanwhile, there are new reports coming out of Italy which suggest there is a chance for the Magpies to bring in a World Cup star before the January window shuts. Per Sports Witness, which references a report from Italian publication Calciomercato, the agent of Inter Milan and Netherlands full back Denzel Dumfries is travelling to England this week.

It is said that Newcastle United and Manchester United are the two clubs who could be ‘given an oppertunity’ to sign the 26-year old in the closing days of the window. It is claimed that the agent, Rafaela Pimenta, plans to hold talks with ‘several’ Premier League sides with Chelsea also having previously been linked.

Out of the two it appears that Old Trafford would be the more likely destination due to Inter’s reported asking price of around £40 million pounds, a fee the Magpies would be unlikely to splash given their pursuit of Anthony Gordon and Dumfries’ age. Not only that but Kieran Trippier has been in super form at right back this season so the position would be far from a priority to spend big on.

The same cannot be said about the Red Devils where right back does look like somewhere they might consider adding a star name to and head coach Erik ten Hag is sure to be familiar with Dumfries from his time as Ajax manager when the defender turned out for PSV Eindhoven. The 42 times capped Dutchman has been at the San Siro since 2021 but talk of a move to the Premier League has been persistent for the past six months or so.
