Newcastle United set for another Yoane Wissa FIFA payout as official announcement made

Newcastle United forward Yoane Wissa is going to the 2026 World Cup with DR Congo.

Yoane Wissa is set to represent DR Congo at the 2026 World Cup in North America next month.

The Newcastle United forward infamously suffered an injury while away with DR Congo just days after joining the club from Brentford for £55million.

The PCL injury kept Wissa out of action for the first three months of his Newcastle career, saw him miss the African Cup of Nations with DR Congo and has ultimately derailed his debut campaign for the Magpies.

Despite scoring just one Premier League goal this season, Wissa has been called up to the DR Congo squad for this summer’s World Cup.

DR Congo secured a World Cup spot by beating Jamaica in the inter-confederation play-off match back in March. It will be the country’s first World Cup tournament since 1974 as Zaire.

Yoane Wissa on NUFC struggles

While Wissa’s struggles on Tyneside have fuelled speculation that the club could look to offload him after less than a year, the player is determined to make a success of his move despite a slow start.

He told Joel Beya TV: “I am a soldier. I can make so many mistakes and I will keep making so many mistakes because I am human but what I want them [Newcastle fans] to know is the love I’ve got for this shirt. I’m looking forward to next season.

“I think I understand now how big this club is and how important it is. I hope I am going to do better and I will try my best to do better for sure because for me, it is more important than anything else.

“To perform at Newcastle is something unbelievable for me because even when I was young, I never expected to be here. I am very proud and grateful to be here, so I just need to show.

“I know that so many players struggle after the first year, either here or so on. Now I am starting to connect with the players, which is really important for me. I am looking forward.

“We’ve got seven games left, I hope I am going to score some goals towards the end. But for me, the most important thing for me is to say I am a soldier and no matter what, I’ll keep going.”

DR Congo FIFA complaint dropped

DR Congo’s World Cup place appeared under threat after an appeal from the Nigeria Football Federation.

DR Congo beat Nigeria on penalties back in November to advance to the inter-confederation play-off match for a place at the 2026 World Cup.

Nigeria submitted a formal complaint to FIFA that DR Congo fielded ineligible players in Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Axel Tuanzebe, who are both former England youth internationals. Congolese law prohibits dual citizenship despite the pair both representing the country at the African Cup of Nations earlier this season without any complaints.

Nigeria’s complaint was submitted despite two of their most notable players, Alex Iwobi and Ademola Lookman, being former England youth internationals.

FIFA reviewed the appeal before rejecting it and allowing DR Congo to go on to qualify forfor the World Cup.

Newcastle United set for Yoane Wissa payout

Newcastle will receive a fee from the FIFA Club Benefits Programme for every day Wissa is away with the DR Congo side at the World Cup. The fee is reported to be £8,200 per day, which would guarantee clubs a minimum payout of around £186,000 per player.

That will increase should the player’s country progress into the knockout stages. DR Congo face Portugal, Colombia and Uzbekistan in the group stage.

Newcastle have already received compensation from FIFA after Wissa injured himself while on international duty back in September, which saw his wages covered until he returned to full training in November.
